Job Description

Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County’s (HfHKC) Construction staff is looking for a Carpenter Crew Lead to join our skilled staff in building more homes. The person filling this position will be responsible for building and leading volunteers, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Construction. The successful candidate will be a mission driven team player, able to work effectively with vendors, sub-contractors, volunteers and families in the HfHKC homeownership program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Construction Site

● Completes construction tasks including but not limited to framing, siding installation, interior finishes such as flooring, trim, and paint, windows & doors installation, and site work.

● Execute all work to a high-quality standard per HfHKC new homes guidelines.

● Works with volunteers on a daily basis, at times supervising these volunteers.

● Works alongside Construction staff and provides direction or supervision when needed.

● Communicates effectively with Director of Construction for all jobsite needs.

● Monitors the job site to ensure the correct number of materials and tools are available at all times.

● Maintain site security and access.

● Stores building materials and tools in logical fashion to promote efficiency and safety.

● Accountable for the safety and security of the job site per Washington L&I policies.

● Accountable for the job site materials and tools until build completion and homeowner has received the Certificate of Occupancy.

● Responsible for all workmanship and all follow-up work needed on the house (punch list) within reasonable and approved completion timelines.

● Assists in training and supervision of all on-site volunteers, Americorps members in construction practices, safety and adherence to HfHKC guidelines and policies.

● Assigns tasks to volunteers based on skill levels and aptitude, while encouraging and nurturing volunteers in their work.

● Demonstrates necessary skills to manage volunteers’ completion of assigned tasks.

● Coordinates and communicates with the Director of Construction to manage necessary volunteers for workdays.

● Performs other appropriate activities and duties as assigned.

STANDARDS FOR MEASURING PERFORMANCE:

 ● Self-starting and ability to work both independently and with other staff, or volunteers, in a team environment.

● Demonstrated knowledge of construction and construction site operations.

● Effective problem solving and time management skills.

● Communicates and works effectively with a diverse population – varying in age, gender, physical/mental health, lifestyles, cultural/ethnic backgrounds, religions, etc.

● Completes required training to meet HfHKC operating procedures (e.g. Habitat Competent Person Training).

QUALIFICATIONS:

● Proven experience in residential construction and carpentry with at least three (3) years experience required.

● At least two (2) years experience in new home construction preferred.

● Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

● Knowledge of OSHA and Washington L&I safety policies and safe construction site practices.

● Must have access to reliable transportation and have a current, valid Washington state driver’s license.

● Experience in working with other employees and volunteers, directing successful teams in construction operations and objectives preferred.

● Background check required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 ● Position requires routine exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, dust and noise.

● Ability to work safely at heights on ladders, scaffolding, or roofs.

● Ability to safely access all areas of the build site.

● Ability to stand for long periods of time.

● Ability to lift 50 pounds.
